Kinder Institute to release findings of Houston Area Asian Survey

The first systematic look at the Houston area’s Asian population over a 16-year period will be released Feb. 7 by Rice University’s Kinder Institute for Urban Research and Co-director Stephen Klineberg. The survey provides rare insight into the area’s varied Asian communities.

Klineberg will discuss survey highlights during an event hosted by the Kinder Institute from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at the Asia Society of Texas Center, 1370 Southmore Blvd. The event is open to the general public, but attendees must RSVP at http://bit.ly/XIfunf.

“This research documents the rise of second-generation Asians,” Klineberg said. “It also highlights the important role Houston-area Asians play in building a successful multi-ethnic future.”

Houston is part of the most ethnically diverse metropolitan region in the United States, with increasing numbers of Asians alongside their Latino, African-American and Anglo counterparts. The Kinder Institute Houston Area Asian Survey is the first systematic study that chronicles the Asian experience in Houston and is an expansion of the institute’s annual Kinder Houston Area Survey.
