2014 outlook for Affordable Care Act topic at Rice’s Baker Institute June 28

Health economist Vivian Ho will discuss the latest research on how rates for health insurance coverage are expected to change under the Affordable Care Act in 2014 at a June 28 luncheon at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy.

The major provisions of the Affordable Care Act that increase access to private and public health insurance will take effect in 2014.

Ho, Rice University’s Baker Institute Chair in Health Economics and professor of economics and a professor of medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, will give her talk, “The Affordable Care Act: What Can We Expect in 2014?,” at noon in Baker Hall’s Doré Commons.

The major provisions of the Affordable Care Act that increase access to private and public health insurance will take effect in 2014. Ho, who leads the Baker Institute’s Health Policy Forum, will explore which individuals and companies may spend more or less for health care, as well as describe the role of newly created health insurance exchanges in the market for insurance coverage. She will also address ongoing changes in payment incentives under Medicare and Medicaid that are influencing health care providers.
