The Institute of Biosciences and Bioengineering at Rice University created the IBB Girls BioScience Initiative this summer. Fifteen high school girls attended workshops, lectures and demonstrations, participated in laboratory research (including launching bottle rockets), went on field trips and received mentoring to broaden their knowledge of careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. They will continue to attend the weeklong summer camp throughout their high school years. (Video by Brandon Martin, photos by Jeff Fitlow)
