Rice United Way Campaign more than one-third of the way to goal

In its second week, the Rice United Way Campaign is at nearly 35 percent of its $175,000 goal. Pledges and contributions total just over $60,000. Currently, the School of Natural Sciences leads the campus in funds raised with $7,912, and the Investments Division leads in participation, with 61 percent.

Rice staff and faculty who contribute to United Way not only help the entire Houston community, but they also support the university’s Vision for the Second Century commitment to positively engaging with the city. And by combining the resources of all Rice donors with the oversight and expertise of United Way, Rice contributions have a greater economic impact. Individually, and together, our gifts to United Way make a positive difference in people’s lives and in the quality of living in our home city.

United Way provides the social safety net for the community. Trained volunteers measure program investments against quality standards, make on-site visits, study issues and make recommendations so that every program is well run, efficient and successful. Each year, United Way touches nearly one out of every two lives in the community.

Rice employees can make a pledge payable by payroll deductions spread over all paychecks in calendar (and tax) year 2013 by logging in to ESTHER (http://esther.rice.edu) and filling out the United Way form.
