Rice University to host School Options Symposium Oct. 5

HOUSTON – (Oct. 1, 2013) – Rice University will co-host the second annual School Options Symposium Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Rice’s Duncan Hall.

The annual event is designed to help parents better navigate the maze of choices and requirements as they select a private or application-based school for their child. The event will include presentations by area educators and parents and keynote presentations by Melissa Marschall, professor of political science at Rice and author of “Choosing Schools: Consumer Choice and the Quality of American Schools”; and Shelby Joe, president and founder of General Academic, a company providing services to parents seeking advice on school selection.

“Any parent considering placing their child in a new school will benefit from the symposium,” said Marschall. “While we will primarily discuss private and application-based public schools, even parents considering sending their children to automatic-admittance schools will gain valuable insight.”
