Connect with Owls old and new at Rice Homecoming & Reunion Nov. 14-17

Rice Homecoming & Reunion 2013 is set for Nov. 14-17, and from tours and lectures to parties and football, opportunities abound for Rice alumni, faculty, staff and friends to connect — and reconnect.

Some exciting and new aspects to homecoming this year include an alumni tent, where many events will take place, including four reunion receptions, an all-homecoming dance, an Owl Expo and President David Leebron’s keynote address.

On Friday and Saturday, a lecture series will feature faculty and alumni sharing their expertise on a range of topics. Among the lectures will be:

–Stephen Klineberg, professor of sociology and co-director of the Kinder Institute for Urban Research, on “The Changing Face of Houston and America: Tracking Responses to the Economic and Demographic Transformations through 32 Years of Houston Surveys.”
–John Boles ’65, the William P. Hobby Professor of History, on “Jefferson and France.”
–Paul Padley, professor of physics and astronomy, on “Discovery of the Higgs Boson: The Importance to Understanding Nature.”
–Vicki Colvin, vice provost for research, the Kenneth S. Pitzer-Schlumberger Professor and professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, on “Nanotechnology: Weighing the Risks and Benefits.”
–And “A Conversation with Nobel Laureate Robert Curl,” 1954 Rice alumnus, University Professor Emeritus and the Pitzer-Schlumberger Professor Emeritus of Natural Sciences.

On Saturday, following campuswide brunches, visitors can see the best of what Rice has to offer from noon to 3 p.m. at Owl Expo at the Alumni Tent and at 2 p.m. hear Leebron’s keynote speech, “Centennial Impact.”

At 3 p.m. Saturday, Owls can fill their bellies at the alumni barbecue and get ready to cheer on the Rice football team. This year’s homecoming game is against Louisiana Tech; kickoff is at 6 p.m.
