If Thanksgiving dinner featured only one-third of a pie, no doubt we’d still be thankful to have it, but either we’d all have to get by with a lot less or some people would have to do without. In the same way, were it not for the nearly one-third of the Rice community who support the Rice United Way Campaign, many of our Houston neighbors who badly need the help the United Way provides would have to make do with less, or the United Way would have to decide who will need to go without.
In this season of thanksgiving, if you are able to share some of what you have with those who need a hand up — not a hand out — to help them help themselves, then would you consider making a contribution to the Rice United Way Campaign?
You needn’t pay anything at all right now. Rice employees may pledge by payroll deductions spread over all paychecks in calendar (and tax) year 2014 by logging in to ESTHER (http://esther.rice.edu) and filling out the United Way form, or using the pledge form found at www.rice.edu/unitedway. That same pledge form may also be used to make immediate cash, check or credit card gifts (for tax year 2013).
