Rice University’s Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) will host its first Symposium on Teaching and Learning Jan. 17 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Duncan Hall. The event is free and open to members of the Rice community.
The symposium will include remarks by Rice Provost George McLendon, Dean of Undergraduates John Hutchinson and CTE Director Joshua Eyler. Roundtable discussions will focus on effective teaching techniques and the role of teacher-scholars, and Eden King ’01, associate professor of psychology at George Mason University, will present a keynote address.
Eyler said that the symposium is designed to bring the Rice community together to talk about what is distinctive about the teaching culture on campus, to examine innovative practices that are currently taking place in Rice classrooms and to envision the future of teaching here.
“The symposium offers an exciting chance to celebrate the outstanding teaching at Rice and to explore new approaches at the same time,” Eyler said.
Lunch will be provided to faculty, staff and students who RSVP by Jan. 13. To reserve a spot, visit http://bit.ly/1faPsbP. Questions should be directed to Eyler or CTE Program Coordinator Beth Castillo at 713-348-2732.
