Next Scientia colloquia set for Jan. 21

Four faculty members will discuss ideas that powerfully influenced them in their careers and intellectual lives at the next Scientia colloquia at 4 p.m. Jan. 21.

The colloquium, which is free and open to the public, will be in Duncan Hall’s McMurtry Auditorium, with a reception afterward.

Speakers and their topics will be:

–Moramay Lopez-Alonso, assistant professor of history, on “Anthropometric History.”
–Troy Schaum, assistant professor in architecture, on “Combinatory Form.”
–Maria Oden, professor in the practice of engineering and director of the Oshman Engineering Design Kitchen, on “Real-World Education.”
–Justin Esarey, assistant professor of political science, on “Doubt.”

Scientia is an institute of Rice University faculty founded in 1981 by the mathematician and historian of science Salomon Bochner. The lecture series provides an opportunity for scholarly discussion across disciplinary boundaries; its members and fellows come from a wide range of academic disciplines.
