HOUSTON – (Jan. 30, 2014) – The Actors From The London Stage, an international touring theater troupe based in London and the University of Notre Dame in the United States, will be in residency at Rice University Feb. 18-22. They will perform William Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” at the university’s Hamman Hall, 6100 Main St. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 20-22.

“‘As You Like It’ delights audiences with wrestling, mistaken identities, cross-dressing, four marriages and a happy ending, all set in an enchanting forest,” said Christina Keefe, director of Rice’s Theatre Program and professor in the practice.

"'As You Like It' delights audiences with wrestling, mistaken identities, cross-dressing, four marriages and a happy ending, all set in an enchanting forest," said Christina Keefe, director of Rice’s Theatre Program and professor in the practice.

The Actors From The London Stage, an educational program developed by Homer Swander at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and founded by Patrick Stewart, is now in its 35th year touring approximately 16 to 20 universities to give communities, students and faculty the opportunity to experience a dynamic and enriching performing arts program.

The program’s performers come from prestigious theater companies such as the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Royal National Theatre of Great Britain and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, as well as from appearances in film and on the BBC. All roles will be played by five veterans of classical theatre: Jennifer Higham, Joannah Tincey, Dan Winter, Robert Mountford and Patrick Miller.

Tickets are $15 for Rice students, alumni, faculty, staff and senior citizens; $20 for general admission; and $10 per person for groups of 10 and more. Tickets are available in advance by calling 713-348-PLAY.
