Rice to hold inaugural Diversity Film Contest

Students, faculty and staff can convey their unique view of what diversity looks like at Rice by entering the university’s first Diversity Film Contest.

Films (or videos) may be submitted in two categories:

Documentary: Films submitted to this category should not include entirely scripted or improvised fictionalizations of actual events. However, some dramatization of actual events is permitted. Films should portray the director’s creative and stylistic perspective of reality.

Fiction: Submissions should be either scripted or improvisational depictions of fictional events. Films should portray themes with which the audience can emotionally relate through the development of characters as they deal with specific issues.

Films must be less than 15 minutes in length. Those exceeding this time restriction will neither be viewed by the judges nor shown at the public viewing. For a complete list of contest rules, visit www.rice.edu/filmcontest/rules.html.

Entries must be submitted by March 24. Submission forms are available online at www.rice.edu/filmcontest/submission.html.

Winning videos will receive up to $2,500 and will be announced April 23 during a public screening before a panel of judges.

The contest is sponsored by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, Rice Media Center and Multicultural Community Relations in the Office of Public Affairs.
