‘The Mirror of Time’ painting depicts Lovett Hall’s iconic arcade

“The Mirror of Time – Rice University,” a 90-by-130-inch diptych painting that depicts Lovett Hall’s iconic arcade, is part of a new, simultaneous three-gallery exhibition in Houston by artist Fernando Casas ’72, a Rice distinguished lecturer of philosophy.

Casas said the exhibition, titled “Co-Constitutions,” highlights his interest in how the human interprets reality. For each gallery, he has created a large installation piece that is accompanied by recent paintings and drawings as well as by some key works from his past. “The overall organizing idea for the exhibition is the well-known yet fundamental fact of co-constitution — the wondrous phenomenon that by virtue of the simultaneous interplay of various factors, a totally new reality emerges,” he said.

“Co-Constitutions” will be on display through Feb. 23 at G Gallery, 301 E. 11th St., and Redbud Gallery, 303 E. 11th St., and through March 7 at Gremillion & Co. Fine Art. Inc., 2501 Sunset Blvd. “The Mirror of Time” is being shown at Gremillion. (Photo courtesy of Fernando Casas)
