Starting Feb. 25, a Facilities Engineering and Planning (FE&P) team will be visiting buildings all across campus to assess how office and administrative space is being used.
he project resulted from a recommendation in the Space Task Force Report, which can be found on the Administrators’ Forum website and on the Faculty Senate website.
Pat Dwyer, senior project manager for FE&P, is leading the office space survey. The goal is to free up space to accommodate growth and emerging priorities in the short term and to develop a long-term plan that could include creating more office space to meet the university’s future needs.
More than 654,200 square feet of space will be visually surveyed in 70 buildings between Feb. 25 and May 2. In addition to all office and administrative space on the main campus, the survey will include the South Campus and leased space in the IBC Building and the Memorial Hermann Medical Plaza Building. Dwyer said departments will be given advanced notice of when their buildings are scheduled for site visits.
After the surveying has been completed, Dwyer and colleagues will spend a few weeks analyzing the data. They plan to issue a final report in June.
