Ben Edquist, a graduate student at the Shepherd School of Music, won first prize in the 2014 Lotte Lenya Competition, held April 12 at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. The annual event is an international theater singing competition that recognizes exceptionally talented young singers and actors, ages 19-32, who are dramatically and musically convincing in a wide range of repertoire, with a focus on the works of Kurt Weill. The competition is sponsored by the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music.
