For the 2014-15 academic year, Rice News will be using a new format to promote most upcoming campus events that will help you reach a wider audience. Beginning with the Aug. 25 issue, a section called “Coming Events” will include links to entries posted on http://events.rice.edu if they have been submitted to Rice News.
We expect this new approach will make it easier for readers to locate info on campus events and enable Rice News writers to spend more time on research and feature stories, which Public Affairs’ metrics indicate receive more views than articles announcing departmental lectures and forums.
To take advantage of the new format, post your event to the Rice University events calendar and then send an email to ricenews@rice.edu with a request to have the event announced in Rice News and include the link to your calendar posting. An editor will write a headline, link to your event entry and include it in the Rice News issue that will be published prior to the event. The events’ headlines will also be compiled into a post that will be featured on news-network.rice.edu/news.
Events at Rice can be accessed at http://events.rice.edu.
To submit your event, visit http://events.rice.edu/admin/login/index.cfm.
If you do not have authorization to post on events.rice.edu, contact your department coordinator, who can manage events for you or help you acquire a password. If you are a department administrator yourself and need assistance, contact webservices@rice.edu. If you have questions about these instructions, contact Web Editor Arie Passwaters at 713-348-6773 or arie@rice.edu.
Great change! I like this better as it’s easier for me to locate. Thanks for the heads-up, Arie!
