Baker Institute panel to discuss Mexico’s telecommunication sector Nov. 10

HOUSTON – (Nov. 3, 2014) – Tony Payan, director of Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy’s Mexico Center, will host a panel discussion on the implications of Mexico’s decision to unbundle the country’s telecommunications sector from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 10.

The panel will be moderated by Dallas Morning News’ Mexico City bureau chief, Alfredo Corchado.

On July 14, Mexico’s President Enrique Peña Nieto signed into law a series of reforms that restructure the legal framework of the country’s telecommunications sector in order to expand opportunities for foreign investment. The reforms contain a number of regulatory changes that will affect the coverage, quality and costs of mobile phone, television and Internet networks.

This panel discussion aims to provide industry leaders, policymakers, academics and the public with the opportunity to engage with leading experts in the telecommunications field about the impact of Mexico’s 2014 reforms.
