Owls gather to celebrate the culture of philanthropy at Rice

Rice University students “gathered for good” at points around campus to celebrate the importance of giving at Rice during National Philanthropy Week Nov. 10-14.

More than 17,000 faculty, staff, alumni, students and friends made a gift to Rice during the past year. During National Philanthropy Week, students, faculty and staff signed thank-you cards to acknowledge these donors and their impact on the university.

Many thank-you cards will travel to generous Owls who live outside of Texas — a reminder that connections to Rice go far beyond geography.

Events throughout the week encouraged students to consider the sources of support that maintain the university’s exceptional academic environment and accessible education; faculty and staff were saluted for their generosity.

National Philanthropy Week participants received a free T-shirt that earned them a drink at the Rice Coffeehouse Nov. 14, courtesy of the Rice Annual Fund. Messages of thanks and enthusiasm were shared on Twitter with the hashtag #RiceNPW14.
