According to the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program’s 2014 Global Go To Think Tank Index, the Baker Institute also ranks No. 4 among the world’s energy- and resource-policy think tanks — up from No. 5 in 2013 — and No. 18 among the top think tanks in the United States — up from No. 20 in 2013.

“The rankings recognize the Baker Institute’s quality research, policy recommendations and outreach efforts,” said Founding Director Ambassador Edward Djerejian. “They acknowledge the work of a dedicated team that, through timely and objective policy analysis and recommendations, has made the institute increasingly influential in the public and private sectors. Everyone who is part of the Baker Institute should take pride in this achievement.”

Founded in 1993, Baker Institute fellows and scholars conduct research on domestic and foreign policy issues with the goal of bridging the gap between the theory and practice of public policy. Core fields of study include energy, the Middle East, Mexico, health care, taxes and public finance, international economics, science and technology, China, space policy and drug policy.

“The strong ranking of the Baker Institute Center for Energy Studies reflects a commitment to comprehensive research into the most pressing issues of today and tomorrow,” said Kenneth Medlock, CES senior director and the James A. Baker III and Susan G. Baker Fellow in Energy and Resource Economics. “Energy touches everything, and we will continue to expand into new areas and seek new collaborative pathways in order to provide a meaningful, data-driven voice in the policy arena.”

The Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program’s Global Go To Think Tank Index has become the gold standard for think tanks around the world and is widely cited by governments, donors, journalists and policymakers as the foremost guide to the performance of thousands of domestic and international public policy centers.

The program’s report is compiled with assistance from 2,000 peer institutions and experts from the print and electronic media, academia, public and private donor institutions, and governments in the U.S. and around the globe.
