Jane Chance, the Andrew W. Mellon Distinguished Professor Emerita of English and an internationally renowned scholar of medieval literature and culture, was one of eight poets included in the recently published anthology “New Crops from Old Fields: Eight Medievalist Poets” (Stairwell Books), which was edited by British writer Oz Hardwick. Chance published her first book of poems in 2014, “Only Begetter” (White Violet Press). “The experience of reading Jane Chance’s ‘Only Begetter’ is akin to watching a surrealist florist weave a wreath of unexpected objects: taxable laughter, eyes that ‘glimmer like bruised prunes,’ a coughing caterpillar, and ‘a mean seamstress,’ to name just a few,” one reviewer wrote.
