iEducate recruits undergraduate and graduate students as tutors for HISD

The nonprofit organization iEducateUSA (iEDU) hosted a reception Sept. 11 at Cohen House on the Rice campus. The organization recruits Houston undergraduate and graduate students to work as mentors and math/science tutors in Houston Independent School District’s (HISD) Blackshear, Braeburn and Crockett elementary schools. Dan Domeracki, vice president of government and industry affairs at Schlumberger, was the keynote speaker. Juliet Stipeche, Houston ISD Board of Education trustee and associate director of the Richard Tapia Center for Excellence and Equity at Rice, also spoke. Members from the Rice University School Mathematics Project also attended and are playing a role in promoting iEDU at Rice to help recruit students to serve as tutors.
