GCC celebrates a quarter century of collaboration

Rice Provost Marie Lynn Miranda joined provosts from Baylor College of Medicine, the University of Houston, the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and the Institute of Biosciences and Technology at Texas A&M Health Science Center at an Oct. 16 panel discussion about the future of collaboration in the Texas Medical Center. The discussion was part of a two-day conference sponsored by the Gulf Coast Consortia (GCC) in celebration of the 25th anniversary of its forebear, the Keck Center for Quantitative Biomedical Training. The Keck Center, the first collaborative training and research organization to combine the strengths of multiple institutions from the medical center, today serves as the graduate and postgraduate training arm of the GCC. The conference celebrated the accomplishments of more than 450 researchers who have received graduate and postdoctoral training at the Keck Center since 1990, some of whom returned to Houston to speak at the event.
