Rice University to hold MLK candlelight vigil, program and reception Sunday

HOUSTON – (Jan. 15, 2016) – The Black Student Association and the Association of Rice University Black Alumni will host a Martin Luther King (MLK) candlelight vigil, program and reception beginning at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 17 at the Sculpture Courtyard of Sewall Hall on the university’s campus.

The program, “Dreamers and Doers – Acknowledging The Collective Work of Community as we Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Black Undergraduates at Rice,” will include a speech from Rice University Provost Marie Lynn Miranda.

Who:               The Black Student Association, Association of Rice University Black Alumni and Rice Provost Marie Lynn Miranda.

What:             MLK candlelight vigil, program and reception and recognition of the 50th anniversary of black undergraduates at Rice University.

When:            Candlelight vigil begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by the program and reception.

Where:           Rice University, Sewall Hall, 6100 Main St.

The event is free and open to the public. A map of the university is available here. Sewall Hall is No. 72 on the map.
