Rice’s Jones School to host Empower Global Health Conference Feb. 12-13
HOUSTON – (Jan. 25, 2016) – Leading interdisciplinary health professionals and educators in the Greater Houston and Gulf Coast region who are working in the field of global health will gather at Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business Feb. 12-13 to discuss their concerns.
Hosted by the Houston Global Health Collaborative and the Jones School’s Health Care Initiative, the fourth annual Empower Global Health Conference is open to the public, but paid registration is required. All conference keynote addresses, panels and presentations will take place in McNair Hall, 6100 Main St.
The conference draws professionals and students from multiple institutions throughout the region, and practice disciplines range from public health and medicine to nursing, dentistry and pharmacy. The goal is to bring all parties together to network and share information to increase collaboration and maximize efforts and information sharing about global health, according to the event organizers.
Keynote speakers will be Dr. Sharmila Anandasabapathy, professor of medicine in gastroenterology and director of Baylor Global Initiatives and the Baylor Global Innovation Center at Baylor College of Medicine; Dr. Doyin Oluwole, founding executive director of Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon at the George W. Bush Institute; Dr. Mark Shrime, research director of the program in global surgery and social change at Harvard Medical School; and Amy Jaffe, executive director for energy and sustainability at the University of California, Davis.
