Rice alumna Larycia Hawkins ‘94, associate professor of political science at Wheaton College, visited campus Jan. 26 to speak during a private gathering with members of the Boniuk Institute for the Study and Advancement of Religious Tolerance’s student council about her career in academia and issues of religious tolerance. Hawkins has been in the news recently for wearing a hijab as part of her Advent worship in support of Muslims. Wheaton College officials have instituted dismissal proceedings against her, claiming that her statement that Christians and Muslims worship one God conflicts with the college’s Statement of Faith.
