Adria Baker named Fulbright Scholar Alumni Ambassador

Adria Baker, associate vice provost for international education and executive director of the Office of International Students and Scholars, has been appointed to serve as a Fulbright Scholar Alumni Ambassador.

Each year Fulbright Scholar Alumni Ambassadors are selected and trained to present information on their Fulbright experience at campus workshops, academic conferences and other venues.

“Over a two-year period, they play a very important role in promoting Fulbright grants to other faculty and campus administrators and raising the visibility of the program nationally,“ said Maria de los Angeles Crummett, executive director of the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, which is a department of the Institute of International Education.

The Fulbright Scholar Program is funded by the U.S. Department of State and supports more than 800 U.S. faculty and professionals each year to teach or conduct research in 125 countries around the world.

Baker was awarded a Fulbright in 2013 to travel to South Korea and participate in the International Education Administrators Seminar. As part of an eight-member delegation, Baker visited many types of Korean universities and U.S. and Korean government agencies to discuss comparative secondary and higher education issues.

Baker said that since 2014, Rice has taken on a more strategic perspective and leadership role in the Houston and Southeast Texas area with the “Focus on Fulbright” initiative that supports and expands Fulbright visibility and activities.
