Dagmar Beck, director of Rice’s Professional Master’s Program in both science and engineering, presented two sessions at the annual conference of theĀ National Professional Science Master’s Association in Washington, D.C., Nov. 9-11. Beck, a past president and board member of the association, spoke about Rice’s fifth-year professional science master’s (PSM) option for undergraduates, Rice’s PSM/MBA option, which her office coordinates in collaboration with Rice’s Jones Graduate School of Business, and the processes Rice uses to find PSM internships.

The architecture firm of Troy Schaum, an assistant professor at the Rice School of Architecture, is one of five finalists in the 2017 MoMA PS1 Young Architects Program, an annual competition that features up-and-coming international architects. Schaum and his colleague Rosalyne Shieh of Schaum/Shieh Architects have been invited to submit a design for a temporary outdoor installation that would provide shade, seating and water to visitors at MoMA PS1, an exhibition space in Long Island City, N.Y., affiliated with the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The winner will be announced in February.
