Sol LeWitt’s ‘Glossy and Flat Black Squares’ caps Rice Gallery’s 22-year run

For more than 22 years, Rice Gallery has been the only university gallery in the nation devoted to commissioning site-specific installation art. In its final exhibition, the gallery comes full circle by bringing to life for a second time one of its earliest installations, “Glossy and Flat Black Squares (Wall Drawing #813)” by conceptual art pioneer Sol LeWitt. Unveiled to the public Feb. 9, the installation will be on view at the gallery, located on the first floor of Sewall Hall, until May 14. The tradition of installation art on campus will carry on at the new 50,000-square-foot Moody Center for the Arts, which opens Feb. 24. For more information, visit http://ricegallery.org.
