James Carter, a Brown college senior majoring in psychology and English, had a plan for his life before he graduated high school. Aiming to be a college professor, he knew he would need extensive research experience and a Ph.D. to achieve his dream.
Carter’s desire for a small campus, strong financial aid and ample research opportunities led him to pursue his undergraduate degree at Rice.
“It was very much me looking at what it was I wanted in life and being able to tailor it back down to which university would give me the best opportunity,” he said.
In the last four years, Carter discovered other avenues Rice has to offer.
“I think people are surprised when they find out I play volleyball at Rice. People don’t expect that we have it. There are lot of things people don’t expect that we have,” Carter said.
After graduation, Carter will pursue a Ph.D. and continue his pursuit of becoming a college professor.
