Renowned Texas-New York artist John Alexander (above, left) worked in Rice’s Sewall Hall printmaking studio March 28-30 to create a series of monotypes. Alexander worked alongside Patrick Masterson, master printer; Karin Broker (above, right), Rice professor of printmaking; and Patrick Palmer, dean of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston’s Glassell School of Art. During the open studio, the public had the unique opportunity to interact and observe as Alexander painted the plates. The prints were pulled by Masterson, Broker and Palmer with student assistants. The monotypes resulting from the print project at Rice will be on view at McClain Gallery, 2242 Richmond Ave., during the PrintHouston festival in May-June.
