Rice’s Shepherd School Chamber, Symphony orchestras to present final concerts of the season

HOUSTON – (April 11, 2017) – Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music Chamber and Symphony orchestras will perform their final concerts of the spring semester April 20 and 21, respectively. Both performances will take place at 8 p.m. in Alice Pratt Brown Hall’s Stude Concert Hall on the Rice University campus. Larry Rachleff, the Walter Kris Hubert Professor of Orchestral Conducting, will direct both performances.

The Shepherd School Chamber Orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme, Op. 33, featuring soloist Erik Wheeler and associate conductor Jerry Hou; Brahms’ Variations on a Theme by Haydn, Op. 56; and Haydn’s Symphony No. 96 in D Major, “Miracle.” The Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra will perform Schoenberg’s Variations for Orchestra, Op. 31 and Strauss’ “Alpine Symphony.”

The Chamber Orchestra performance is free and no tickets are required. The Symphony Orchestra performance is ticketed but free of charge. For tickets, contact the Shepherd School concert office at 713-348-8000.
