Michelle Chang, a Visiting Wortham Fellow at the Rice School of Architecture, has been named a winner of the Architectural League Prize for Young Architects and Designers. The prize honors portfolios of work by the competitors, with the winners selected by architects, artists, critics and members of the Young Architects and Designers Committee. Chang’s portfolio included her Rice installation, “A,B 1:2,” an exercise in light and shade in a unique half-scale house. (See a Rice News video about the project here.) Her work will be part of a winners’ exhibition at the Parsons School of Design at The New School in New York City June 28 to Aug. 1. Chang will give a lecture to accompany the exhibition and prize at the Parsons School June 27 at 7 p.m.

Esther Fernández, assistant professor of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American studies, presented “Beyond the Marquee: The Siglo de Oro Drama Festival and the Task of Staging the Comedia at the Border” at the 33rd annual Association for Hispanic Classical Theater Symposium on Golden Age Theatre, held April 21 in El Paso, Texas.

Gisela Heffes, associate professor of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American studies, presented “Undisciplined Knowledge: Indigenous Activism, Resistance and the Making of the Documentary” on the panel “Contemporary Latin American Cinema Beyond the Human” at the 58th annual Conference of the Society for Cinema & Media in Chicago March 25.
