Norm Woody has been named managing director of Rice Online Learning, which offers open courseware through edX, Coursera and Canvas platforms to learners around the world and to Rice students.
Woody will work with Caroline Levander, vice president for digital education and strategic initiatives, to execute the program’s vision, ensure optimal quality standards, effective workflow processes and workplace standards.
For the past three years, Woody has served as project manager for OpenStax, Rice’s nonprofit that publishes free textbooks and has saved U.S. college students more than $68 million since 2012. Before coming to Rice, Woody spent over a decade at Microsoft, where he led field projects and engagements and managed Fortune 100 technical contracts.
Woody will be aided by program director Cylette Willis, who will be promoted to senior academic design adviser July 1. Willis will be responsible for faculty and student training, learning outcomes and assessment, process development, faculty instructional design coaching and resource production to support workflow.
