Gee, Huie and Patterson elected to Rice Board of Trustees

Three prominent business professionals in investments, real estate and the beverage industry have been elected to the Rice University Board of Trustees. Terrence Gee, senior vice president and chief information officer for Coca-Cola Beverages Florida; Tommy Huie, former president and chief investment officer for BMO Global Asset Management; and Brian Patterson, founder of White Star Real Estate, will serve four-year terms on the board.

“Terrence, Tommy and Brian have valuable expertise and experience in a variety of areas that will benefit Rice,” said Board of Trustees Chair Bobby Tudor. “They have each been actively involved and supportive of Rice across a broad range of university priorities for many years. We’re very happy to welcome them as trustees and are excited to hear their ideas and perspectives regarding the university’s future.”

“We look forward to working with Brian, Tommy and Terrence as we develop and execute our ambitious new strategic plan,” Rice President David Leebron said.

Terrence Gee

Gee leads the information technology function and operations for one of the largest independently owned and operated Coca-Cola bottlers in the United States. He also is a partner with Spinel Investment Co., a private investment office specializing in creating and investing in high-value logistics, distribution and supply chain management businesses, and chairman of Athenian Consulting Group, a management advisory firm. A 1986 graduate of Rice with a B.A. in economics, Gee began his professional career at Accenture, a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company, where he was a partner for 22 years.

Gee serves as vice chair of the board and vice president for strategy and finance of Prairie View A&M Foundation. He also serves on the boards of Child Advocates Inc., Fort Bend Christian Academy and SpringSpirit and as an advisory board member to Rice’s School of Humanities. He received a Meritorious Service Award from the Association of Rice Alumni in 2016 and was honorary chair of the celebration of 50 years of black undergraduate life at Rice.

Tommy Huie

Huie currently serves as an adviser to a number of financial services organizations, where he leverages his experience in investment management, corporate leadership and business strategy, risk analysis and compliance. He has served as president and chief investment officer for several business units, most notably with the U.S. offices of BMO Global Asset Management. Huie has worked with and served on boards of corporate business units, nonprofit organizations and trustees of mutual funds. A chartered financial analyst, Huie built a successful record of portfolio management and research in investment management.

A 1987 graduate of Rice with a B.S. in electrical engineering and a B.A. in mathematical sciences and managerial studies, Huie also has an MBA in finance and statistics from the Booth Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago. He serves on the Council of Overseers for Rice’s Jones Graduate School of Business and is a founding board member of the Chicago Quantitative Alliance, a nonprofit organization that focuses on the needs of quantitative investment practitioners. Previously he was an associate board member of the Chinese American Service League in Chicago and also served on the board of the Association of Rice Alumni.

Brian Patterson

Patterson founded the real estate development and management company based in Warsaw, Poland, that became a leading real estate company in central and Eastern Europe. Patterson also served as managing partner of White Star Real Estate Russia, White Star Real Estate Polska and White Star Real Estate Europe. In recognition of his contribution to the real estate development field, Patterson received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2013 Central and Eastern European Quality Awards in Warsaw. Patterson led the development of two of Poland’s first modern commercial projects following the country’s transition to a free-market economy — the Warsaw Distribution Center and the Diamond Business Park — and developed commercial projects in nine countries in Europe. He also co-founded Archive Management Solutions (later rebranded as Iron Mountain) with operations in Poland, Russia, Ukraine and Denmark. He has started or acquired and grown multiple other companies in the telecom, energy and business-to-business service industries.

A 1984 graduate of Rice with a B.A. in managerial studies, Patterson also has an MBA from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. He is the longest-serving board member of the Friends of Litewska Children’s Hospital Foundation in Warsaw and has started and continues to operate five other foundations under the umbrella of White Star Foundation whose missions are to support children facing adversity. The Brian Patterson Sports Performance Center at Rice is named in honor of the three-year letterman in Rice football.
