Rice and the University of Texas at Austin (No. 49) are the only two Texas universities in the top 100, which includes 43 U.S. schools. The University of Oxford maintained its No. 1 spot from last year.

THE ranked 1,102 institutions after reviewing data on about 1,500 of the world’s leading research universities. The top 1,000 represents no more than 5 percent of the 20,000 higher education institutions in the world.
