Mexican presidential candidate Derbez to speak at Rice’s Baker Institute Sept. 11

HOUSTON – (Sept. 7, 2017) – Luis Ernesto Derbez, who is seeking the National Action Party’s nomination for president of Mexico, will offer his vision for Mexico and the U.S.-Mexico relationship at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy Sept. 11.

Hosted by the Baker Institute’s Mexico Center, the event is free and open to the public but registration is required.

Who: Luis Ernesto Derbez, Mexico’s former secretary of the economy and of foreign affairs and Mexican presidential candidate.

What: An event titled “Mexico’s 2018 Presidential Elections: A Presentation by Luis Ernesto Derbez.”

When: Monday, Sept. 11, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Where: Rice University, Baker Hall, Kelly International Conference Facility, 6100 Main St.

Mexico will elect a new president July 1, and the country’s main political parties are now preparing to select their candidates. The Institutional Revolutionary Party, the party of Mexico’s current president, is facing strong challenges from three other major political parties — the National Regeneration Movement and the Party of the Democratic Revolution on the left, and the National Action Party on the right of center — as well as from potentially competitive independent candidates, according to event organizers.
