Rice to co-host technology and jobs summit in D.C. Dec. 12

HOUSTON — (Dec. 5, 2017) – Rice University and the Computing Research Association will host the Summit on Technology and Jobs in Washington, D.C., Dec. 12.

The summit will bring together leading technologists, economists and policy experts who will offer their views on where technology is headed and what its impact may be, as well as the policy issues raised by the presentations and discussions. A full agenda of the meeting is available here.

The goal of the summit is to “put the issue of technology and jobs on the national agenda,” said Rice computer scientist Moshe Vardi, who is assisting with coordinating the event and will present the opening address. “Automation and artificial intelligence is here and expanding rapidly. How the United States government, business and the public address the major changes ahead of us are of great importance, and the summit hopes to further the national conversation.”

The Summit on Technology and Jobs will be streamed live on the Computing Research Association website.

Vardi, who is director of Rice’s Ken Kennedy Institute for Information Technology, the Karen Ostrum George Distinguished Service Professor of Computational Engineering and professor of computer science, is a leading national expert on artificial intelligence and is quoted extensively by national news media. He is available for media interviews leading into the summit as well as in Washington during the event.
