Learning opportunities are plentiful at Rice’s Glasscock School this spring

The spring course catalog for Rice’s Susanne M. Glasscock School of Continuing Studies that was mailed in December is replete with a wide variety of course offerings exemplary of the university’s “Unconventional Wisdom” motto. This spring’s courses range from Building Planet Earth and Heart Health: Prevention, Treatments and Innovations to Democracy and Disagreement, Poetry Writing Workshop: Love, Praise, Mourn and other courses in the arts. The school has several dozen other classes in the humanities and sciences, foreign languages and personal and professional development. The catalog includes a welcome message from the school’s new dean, Robert Bruce.

“The Glasscock School consistently challenges learners, embraces a diverse student body and champions a unique teaching and learning culture that prides itself on superior education,” he wrote. “Our vision is to meet the evolving educational demands of students across the globe with rigorous and innovative programs that epitomize unconventional wisdom.”

Most courses are held in the school’s state-of-the-art Anderson-Clarke Center. Selected courses are discounted up to 50 percent for Rice students, faculty and staff. Benefits-eligible faculty and staff may also apply for tuition reimbursement for job-related courses at the Glasscock School. Rice alumni receive a 10 percent discount on all personal and professional development courses except the Midweek Medley course.
