James “Jimmy” Disch, associate professor of sport management, received the David K. Brace Award from the Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. The David K. Brace Award is the highest honor bestowed by the association and recognizes individuals who are clearly outstanding in their profession, who exemplify the best in service, teaching and/or administration, who are recognized by members as noteworthy leaders and whose lives and contributions inspire others.
Sue Prochazka, director of benefits, and Rosie Gonzalez, wellness manager, will give a presentation titled “Diversity and Meaningful Engagement for Building a Culture of Health” at a university summit that Rice is hosting Feb. 6-7 for health and wellness personnel and benefits directors from universities around the country.
Pol Spanos, the Lewis B. Ryon Professor of Mechanical Engineering and of Civil Engineering, received the China International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Award in a Jan. 8 ceremony at the People’s Hall in Beijing that was attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang.
