‘Political Uncertainty and Mexico’s Energy Reform’ is topic at
Rice’s Baker Institute Feb. 15

HOUSTON – (Feb. 6, 2018) – Jesús Reyes-Heroles, former CEO of Pemex and Mexico’s former secretary of energy, will discuss the latest developments in Mexico’s energy sector at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy Feb. 15. In light of the upcoming Mexican presidential elections in July, a panel of experts also will offer perspectives on the potential for changes to the reform and its implementation.

Hosted by the Baker Institute’s Mexico Center and Center for Energy Studies, the event is free and open to the public but registration is required.

Who: Jesús Reyes-Heroles, former CEO of Pemex, Mexico’s former secretary of energy and currently executive president of StructurA, a group of consulting firms, as well as nonresident fellow in the Baker Institute’s Mexico Center.

Panelists Miriam Grunstein, chief energy counsel at Brilliant Energy Consulting and nonresident scholar in the Mexico Center, and Lourdes Melgar, research affiliate in the Center for Collective Intelligence at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Mexico’s former deputy secretary of energy for hydrocarbons.

Francisco Monaldi, fellow in Latin American energy policy at the Baker Institute, will serve as moderator.

When: Thursday, Feb. 15, 8:30-11:45 a.m. (Breakfast will be served at 8.)

Where: Rice University, Baker Hall, Doré Commons, 6100 Main St.

Mexico has successfully implemented its energy reform, which has led to increased private participation in its oil and gas blocks and continued interest from major international exploration and production firms, according to event organizers. Now, as Mexico prepares to hold a presidential election in July, many investors wonder if changes in leadership will also lead to changes to the implementation of the reform or in the contracts negotiated with the current administration, organizers said.
