Houston BCycle adds stations to campus

The citywide bike-share network Houston BCycle has added three stations — racks with ready-to-rent bikes — to those already available to the Rice community. The new stations are at the Cambridge Office Building, the South Servery and Rice Village Apartments.

Last fall stations were installed at the Greenbriar Lot, the Gibbs Recreation Center and the West Lot near the Moody Center for the Arts. Two additional stations — at Duncan Hall and the BioScience Research Collaborative — will be added in the coming months.

These eight stations are a part of Houston BCycle’s growing 57-station network. A map of all the Houston BCycle stations is available at https://houston.bcycle.com/station-map. Through the Houston BCycle system, more than 425 bikes are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Rice students, faculty and staff can get discounted memberships for $25 a semester. (The regular membership price is $99 a year.) Members receive unlimited 60-minute trips to and from all BCycle stations (on campus and off) for the duration of the semester. Summer and fall memberships will be available at the same rate.

Once the membership is activated, members can check out bikes from all of the stations across the city. Houston BCycle will send members a keychain fob in the mail that will unlock bikes from the stations in seconds. Otherwise, members can download the BCycle app at http://www.bcycle.com/app and sign in with membership information. The app will show where stations are and allow members to check out a bike while standing at one of the stations.
