Health, Humanism and Society Scholars share their medical research

The efficacy of text messages to promote hepatitis C screenings and integrating medical and dental records to promote better communication about patient health were among the research projects undertaken this year by students in the School of Humanities and School of Social Sciences’ joint Health, Humanism and Society Scholars (HHASS) program. The undergraduates shared their studies with poster presentations at a reception in the Humanities courtyard outside Rayzor Hall April 16. A collaboration between Rice and Baylor College of Medicine, HHASS provides students the opportunity to conduct yearlong health research projects within the Texas Medical Center, giving them valuable experience and networking that increases their competitiveness for medical and graduate school. Through HHASS, Rice students have presented their work at local and national conferences and co-authored publications in peer-reviewed journals. (Photos by Jeff Fitlow)
