The new Welcome Center in Sewall Hall was packed May 11 for a reception toasting the recipients of the honor of Distinction in Research and Creative Work, a university award given at commencement. Provost Marie Lynn Miranda and Associate Dean and Director of Inquiry-Based Learning Caroline Quenemoen addressed the crowd of parents and soon-to-be graduates whose undergraduate projects produced a concrete outcome and demonstrated achievement above and beyond the norm. Guests enjoyed fruit tarts and champagne as a slideshow spotlighted these achievements as well as Rice’s most recent recipient of the Watson Fellowship and the two Owls who were among this year’s inaugural cohort of Knight-Hennessy Scholars.
