Intersection of faith and science to be discussed at June 6 Rice U. event

HOUSTON – (June 1, 2018) – The intersection of faith and science will be the subject of a June 6 talk hosted by Rice University’s Religion and Public Life Program. Greg Cootsona from the Department of Comparative Religion and Humanities at California State University, Chico, will share his insights on the topic.

The event, “Science at a Particular Crossroads: Bringing the Religious Implications of Mainstream Science to Evangelical Christians,” is free and open to the public and will begin at 8 a.m. in Sewall Hall, Room 309, on the Rice campus. To RSVP, visit https://bit.ly/2GCK5AQ.

Cootsona recently authored “Mere Science and Christian Faith: Bridging the Divide with Emerging Adults.” In his talk, he will discuss the book, which he hopes will impact church congregations’ views of science.

“I perceive a resistance to mainstream science from the wider constituency of U.S. Protestant Christians, and for the sake of our country’s future, we need to embrace STEM,” Cootsona said. “This book is part of my intention to offer education about science with a constituency that often resists some of its major findings.”
