Empanadas, hummus, curried chicken and other globally inspired dishes were served at the annual International Friends at Rice potluck hosted by the Office of International Students and Scholars Sept. 18 in the Rice Memorial Center Grand Hall. For the past 65 years, members of the Rice community have signed up to be Houston-based hosts and friends to international Rice graduate students who are eager to share cross-cultural experiences and learn more about their new city. The meet-and-greet meal was the grad students’ introduction to their new Houston friends, and the first of many meals they’ll share over the next six months. (Photo by Katharine Shilcutt)
