A group of Rice undergraduate students participated in a “Leadership Excursion” to the Houston Ballet Oct. 9. The trip was organized by Rice’s Doerr Institute for New Leaders and offered students the opportunity to hear Jim Nelson, executive director of the fourth-largest professional ballet company in the United States, discuss how he handles success, failure and ethical dilemmas and to reflect on their own leadership journey. The Doerr Institute is the country’s first professional leadership development program offered at no cost to all undergraduate and graduate students and is the only leadership institute that provides individualized guidance from credentialed coaches for college students.
