2 staff members honored with RICE MILE Award

Rice staff members Hector Pineda and Alan Russell have been honored with the RICE MILE Award.

Pineda, an instructional systems specialist, is always the “ultimate professional in handling his job of technology in the classrooms,” according to a letter nominating him for the award.

“My technical life at Rice has been facilitated, indeed enhanced, by Hector,” the nominator wrote. “I am proud to have him as a Rice employee.”

Russell, director of the Disability Resource Center, has shown “superior judgment in decision-making and responding to Americans with Disabilities Act compliance issues,” according to a letter nominating him for the award.

“He is exceptional at interacting with colleagues and students to foster a collaborative and positive atmosphere for finding solutions,” the letter said. “He recognizes that as he works to improve inclusiveness for people with disabilities at Rice, the outcomes make Rice a better place for all.”

All levels of staff are eligible for consideration for the RICE MILE Award and can be nominated by peers, colleagues, co-workers or supervisors as long as they have at least one year of service and are in good standing. Nominations must be submitted through the RICE MILE Award online nomination form and require approval from senior leadership in the nominee’s school or division.
