Under Secretary of the Army visits Rice

President David Leebron met with Under Secretary of the Army Ryan McCarthy on March 8 at Rice’s Baker Institute for Public Policy. The two discussed the Army’s modernization efforts, the new Army Futures Command in Austin and Rice’s research acumen. After their meeting, Leebron joined McCarthy on a guided tour of the Baker Institute. McCarthy then gave a talk to the Rice community at the Bioscience Research Collaborative regarding how the Army is implementing the National Defense Strategy, which calls for a refocus on near-peer competitors, Army modernization and the renewed focus on the Pacific. McCarthy’s trip to Houston included visits with Mayor Sylvester Turner, the Greater Houston Partnership, Station Houston, Combined Arms and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
