Yvette Pearson, the associate dean for accreditation, assessment and strategic initiatives at the Brown School of Engineering, has received the 2019 Claire L. Felbinger Award for Diversity and Inclusion from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The citation to Pearson’s award reads: “For advancing engineering to ensure equitable opportunities for systematically marginalized groups, especially women, racial and ethnic minorities, and people with disabilities, through education and advocacy.” The award, which comes with a $10,000 cash prize, will be presented Nov. 1 in Baltimore. ABET is the lead accreditation organization for college and university programs in applied and natural sciences, computing, engineering and engineering technology at the associate, bachelor’s and master’s degree levels.
