Rice’s Liu Idea Lab for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (Lilie) and the Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship successfully held the first campuswide entrepreneurship event Sept. 4 to bring the university’s entrepreneurship community together in one place.
The 1st Pitch event brought 168 entrepreneurial-minded people to the Graduate Student Commons outside Valhalla to listen to 60-second pitches from 16 current students. Attendees represented 31 different Rice programs and the venture ideas ranged from medical artificial-intelligence programs designed to prevent blood clots to an interactive game to help people create music. The ideas came from a diverse group of students, including undergraduates, MBA and Ph.D. students. In order to bring these different types of backgrounds together, Lilie and Rice Alliance partnered with seven different campus departments and organizations including, the Jones Graduate School of Business, the Oshman Engineering Design Kitchen and the Global Medical Innovation program.
