Rice community members curious to learn more about the sound installation that’s been chirping and chattering outside the Brochstein Pavilion since April came out Sept. 21 to hear Nina Katchadourian speak about her work during a Rice Public Art-hosted reception. A playful piece that activates a quiet grove with human-voiced bird calls, “Please, Please, Pleased to Meet’cha” will run through Sept. 30. It was inspired by an unexpected encounter with bird calls in Trinidad that sounded, to Katchadourian, just like car alarms. (Photo by Katharine Shilcutt)
